Wow, what a week!

This week was full of emotions. I knew this week would have it's quirks and that there would be some very "interesting" consequences. Most fables have a moral at the end of the story, so let me see if I can find it in this one.

A year ago, there was a couple who became tenants in a home managed by a large real estate company. After several complaints by neighbors and gardeners, the couple felt it was necessary to move to another home, in another town. That was received as a wise move by the large real estate company, since there were so many complaints and half of the couple were very difficult to deal with. The home owner decided to sell the house, so the timing was all good. Things were looking up.

After many months of trying to do an inspection, now was the time to do it before the move, so I was not elated to have to do this, but I knew the time was short and I would not have to deal with this again. At the inspection, the house was less than clean, well actually it was more like one of the most dirty houses I'd seen in quite some time. The entire year they were in there, nothing was ever cleaned, nothing. The half  of the couple who was difficult to deal with stayed in bed while the other half took me room to room for an inspection. By the time we got to the bedroom, it became a bit uncomfortable. Needless to say, I wanted out of there, pronto!

My parting words to them was, CLEAN this house, make the necessary repairs, you may be able to get your deposit back, depending on the condition of the house.

At last, the day came when keys were handed in and a move out inspection was warranted. I went out to do this inspection, and I found the house in the exact same condition, except the refrigerator was spotless. What a surprise!

There was a rather large security deposit, so after I assess all the damages and got them repaired, I disposed of the rest of the deposit to the tenants. They were not happy!

A couple of weeks later, the large real estate company was served with a small claims suit by this very unhappy couple.

This week, we all got to meet at the court house, swap evidence, see a mediator, and a judge, and after 3 hours, the judge wasn't able to make a judgement, but said he would consider the case and rule in a couple of days. We would receive the judgement in a couple of weeks.

Wonder what he decided? I have yet to figure out the moral to this story, but I surmise it may just be, don't be slothful and you may be richer. I don't know, but it works for me.

  1. I am shuddering at what a nightmare that house was to go into when it was such a mess. I'm impressed that you went there...TWICE! Glad your week is over! :)
