"The" phone call.

Yesterday I got one of "those" phone calls, one of the ones you hate to get from family. It always starts out like this, "Hi there, I just wanted to let you know..." and then your heart begins to sink and you fell a little light headed. You know it's going to be bad because it is in the middle of the day when no one really has time to chat.

Evidently, mom had fallen off a step ladder when changing the air conditioner filter. It's an old system and had a heavy filter, mounted on the ceiling of the hall. Down she came with the filter and the filter holder. She broke her hip and scraped her chin and arm. This was Saturday night and Barb took her to the hospital right away. Surgery was done Sunday. The doctor decided to screw her hip parts together rather than put in a replacement. The parts were all there, no crushed bones, but the recovery is longer.

I'll give her a call and check up on her and see what sort of arrangements need to be made. I'm planning to go up for at least a few days to help take care of her. The timing is not good, but accidents just don't really consult the calendar.

  1. Oh no! I'm so sorry. I hate to hear when that happens to someone.

  2. I *despise* those phone calls and I've gotten WAY too many of them over the past five years. Your poor mom! I hope you can go up to be with her without too much disruption of the daily schedule at home. I understand that all too well too! (((Rhonda)))
