Stick Dog has not graced the pages of this blog in a while, so it's time to write about that frisky pup.
Today I took him to the dog food store. His favorite haunts, in this order, are Dog Park, Petco and Petsmart. He knows on Sunday evening around dark, we will go and get coffee, so Starbucks is on his list, too.
When we take off out of the drive way and get to the stop sign, he knows if we turn to the right it's got all the makings of a Dog Park event. He begins to get perky and frisky and a bit anxious, but when we turn down the street to the park itself, he is delirious with anticipation of a wild time at the park. He just can't help himself.
If we go to the left at the stop sign, it could mean a ride, a Starbucks run is possible or trip to the dog food store. If I go to the dog food store, about 2 blocks from the Petco, he begins to lick his chops. He gets a treat from the cashiers, most of the time. Today was not a treat giving day. By the time we pull into the parking lot, he has swivel neck going on so that he can keep his eye on the front door. The same thing happens when we turn off Aero drive to the Petsmart. He is a total shopper in the store, snoodles all the toys, checks out the treats, sniffs under the isles ends for dropped food samples and really enjoys the experience. Then the best part! The TREAT!
Today started out like any other day, off to the dog food store, this time Petco. He was thrilled to be going anywhere besides the vet (foreign object in the ear) and when he recognized the direction we were going, he was elated! We went in and started at the toy isle. He needs a new Leo, alas poor old Leo has met his maker. While we were toy looking, a pink haired lady with a designer Yorkie came in and was looking at the costumes across from us. Her mom was there, as well, with her Chihuahua. Stick Dog remembers very well the pack of chihuahua's that attacked him several times, and really doesn't like them all that much. I made him lay down next to me on a short lead and all was well. Until....the Chihuahua made a move toward him. He barked and wrinkled up his nose and showed his teeth. But he was still laying down next to me, being very well behaved. The lady in the pink hair nearly died a thousand deaths, right there in Petco! She began shrieking that "that vicious dog wanted to eat her puppy, why is he in the store! Oh my G...this is more than I can take, he wants to eat her and kill her and rip her up!" This went on for quite some time, but Stick Dog remained in a down position. I just told her he wouldn't have eaten her dog and we went to another isle to look at treats. While treat sniffing, the same lady came past the isle and started up again. Seriously? Stick Dog no longer is interested in you or you little doggie. We get the treats we were looking for and head off toward the cat food isle. I can still hear her lamenting about her poor little puppy. Her mom asked her if she was going to say anything and she replied she wasn't that rude. Really. So we pick up our cat food and take all our purchases to the register.
In front of us is a little boy with his gramma and he and Stick Dog are on the floor together, enjoying boy/dog time. Stick Dog loves kids. The little boy gives him treats and he loves this little kid even more. It's fun to watch and the gramma is enjoying this play time, too. Another customer comes up and stands behind me and is commenting on the two playing, Stick Dog is doing all his tricks for the little boy. Behind her comes pink hair lady. And it begins again.
"Oh my G...!He's going to eat that little boy! He's showing his teeth and is so vicious! Why is he allowed in here?" Oh, yes she did. Needless to say, she was very loud. I finally looked her in the face and said."they are playing" but she wouldn't let it rest. Finally, after the gramma and little boy left, I told her to bite me.
It was a good day!
