Dog Park Story Time

It's been a while since Stick Dog antics have made the paragraphs of this blog. He's been doing pretty good, can't complain too much. He misses the Girl so much at times that he just can't stand the thought of people coming and going. He is getting better at letting me get out the door with out too much anxiety, and he really is seldom here alone. He just wants all his peeps around him at all times, and he would prefer that the adore him and play with him and throw his toys and give him treats...he is selfish.

He is also very spoiled. If his dog parents saw him today, they would hang their heads and tails in shame, living in the city, in a house, on the sofa and sleeping on a bed. They were farm dogs, outside and living like farm dogs.

One thing he loves more than the adoration of his family is going to the dog park. We quit going when most others are there in the evenings because of the behavior of those folks. Really strange bunch. With my job, I can take him to the dog park in the morning when no one is around, or at least no bleeding hearts are around. We get full park to run in and play ball in and no one wants to spend time telling me how to train/raise/control my dog. Nor do I have to hear the "you bought a full breed dog?" story line.

However, tonight I went right at 5, hoping to avoid that crowd and still give Stick Dog a run. For the most part, it was looking good when I got there. Mostly big dogs, which mean those owners are less inclined to be weird. Still, some big dogs tend to be more aggressive, so you take them as they come. It was pretty good, and I can't complain. I was watching the cars coming and getting ready to make my move to the catch gate
to go home. Stick Dog throws a dog fit when it's time to go, but he goes and it's always best if there isn't a pack of dogs guarding the gate. That could be a disaster. So I watch for my escape and as I make my move, a dog owner comes up to me and want to sell me Mary Kay. Yep they are at the Dog Park.

So I say no thanks and head toward the gate. Stick Dog is ready and in we go into the catch gate and just in time! The parade of cars coming down the road is the Wine and Cheese crowd that show up each evening with dogs in tow, to sit at the big round table with a box of wine and snacks and play cards, yell at others to care for their dog, how to raise them, yada yada yada, while not picking up after their own. They are elite, and are a part of the Dog Park governing body, what ever that is. Whew! got out before the winos got in. I felt very lucky! And when I say a box of wine, I really mean a box of wine, and usually I see two boxes, white and red. They do bring throw away cups, no broken glass. It just looks a bit sketchy to see them drinking wine out of a Dixie cup.

  1. I love stories about Stick Dog. Too bad he isn't interested in Mary Kay.
