As I sit stupidly watching a show on warplanes, I am reminded how tranquizing cold medicine is.
I went outside today to try to sit in the sun. As I attempted to sit quietly, the wind was blowing quite briskly. In my backyard, I can close my eyes during the windy afternoon and envision some strange places to be.
On the east side of the yard, there is a palm tree. According to my east side neighbor this is a very expensive tree. I got that pieces of information from her years ago when we were digging up part of the yard and she was concerned we would kill her expensive tree when we started digging up palm roots. The tree survived.
When you sit in the wind with your eyes closed the sounds of the wind fluttering through the fronds makes me feel like I was on a tropical island.
When I focused on the only tree we have in our yard, a tall fir tree, I hear the wind whistle though the needles and I can almost smell the camp ground in the mountain. I love that sound.
When I focus on the trees on the west side, I hear mostly the slap of rubber tree leaves. I can feel the emotions and nearly smell lumpia being made by some Filipino neighbors in my past.
All of these are in my yard and I enjoyed each sensation. It was either that or the cold medicine.
