My neighbor is the owner of 5 beagles. Four of them are search and rescue dogs. They have found many lost people, and even some dead people. Her dogs were instrumental in finding a missing girl here in San Diego this year who had been missing for a year. She started out doing search and rescue with a blood hound named Toby. Toby and Pam trained sometimes with Naomi. It was so fun to watch her sniff and find Naomi, and when she started finding other people, lost ones who had wandered away from home because of Alzheimer's or because of mental conditions, we knew that our training helps were valuable to Toby and to the future people they would be searching for. Pam's dogs have found and hit on several high profile cases here, including Daniel Van Dam and Amber Dubois. I am proud to call her my neighbor.
When we were homeschooling, Pam would bring her puppet dog and give our park group a show about search and rescue, and even educated the children to understand the need for a whistle and how to use it ONLY when they were lost. She taught a song that included the words "don't run around stay found" to let the kids know it's best to stay put if they are lost, it just makes it easier to find a stationary person.
Pam told me that there was a little "dog" umentary being made on her dogs. I came home one day and Wallah! they were shooting! Pam used the young girl across the street as a "lost" person in the film, but there is actual footage of a search where they found the body of a man. This dog she used in this search is her cadaver trained dog and was able to locate him in quick fashion.
I thank Pam and the others who do this volunteer job, they don't get paid a cent, because they are hard workers and work in some incredible terrain and have horrible hours, usually at night.
Here is the Youtube video for your watching pleasure.

That is probably the coolest thing I've seen! Tell your neighbor "THANK YOU!!" from me for what she does and what her wonderful dogs do!
