It ain't Arbor Day

This summer, my neighbor decided to take down a couple of trees. There are three trees growing very close together next to the fence, and all three are rather leafy. One of them is a Rubber tree. If you've never seen one, then you've never been to San Diego. It seems as though you can't drive any where with out seeing a Rubber tree. They are usually started as a stick, stuck in the ground and amazingly it grows. And it grows and grows and never stops. The other tree that is going down is a Pepper tree, also very common in the area. That tree has red berries on it that the birds love during berry season. It looses  lots of leaves and keeps me raking all winter. The 3rd tree is an Ash tree that split in half a few years ago during a wet winter storm. That tree is staying while the other two are going. I look forward to them going, though it will make my yard sunnier. But...the neighbor only trimmed the parts that grow over his yard. The parts that grow over my yard are still there, as you can see. They look like they are leaning over, and if we have a wet winter, they will fall over, taking the fence and other stuff with them. I had hoped that with the drought we are having, perhaps the roots
on the trees would grown deep, and then the trees wouldn't be such an irritation or fear of falling factor, but the Rubber tree roots grown along the top of the ground, and I've been digging up roots for years. We can't grow grass in the shady, rooted area, and the roots cause lawn mover blades to bend and make ugly noises. I know.

So, the neighbor who is suppose to be taking the tree down, has gone half way and stopped. He got a new toy to distract him. His wife told him he couldn't take the bush buggy out until the trees were finished, so he doesn't take it "out", but he plays with it in the driveway. I'm hoping he will get tired of tinkering with it in the drive, and get back to the trees so he can take his new toy out to east county and the leaning tower of trees are gone. I feel a bit uncomfortable with the trees being heavy on one side. Dog thinks it's just one great big stick!

Check out the sky in that picture! We are finally entering into a fall season, the temperature is low and we are  closing the windows at night. That picture was taken around 3:30 in the afternoon. It going to be sweater season before I know it.

This week was a great week. Nothing happened besides life in general. I had lunch with a good friend, who's friendship I treasure greatly, and got to have a phone conversation with another good friend who I miss so much. I am so thankful I live in this period of time when I have the conveniences of a phone. Here is Dog doing his favorite hobby, stick chewing. He actually holds it between his paws and rubs it around his face prior to chewing it up. He loves to chew sticks, but tonight I found him under my bed chewing a corner of the table leaf. He showed no remorse or fear of punishment. It was just all good as long as it lasted.

  1. Eeek the trees look scary. Hope your neighbor finishes the job soon before damage is done to your yard.

I think I know who you talked to on the phone, too. ;)
