A Royal Wedding



The Kiss

 Today marks the day for a Royal Wedding in Britain. It has been a long time since the last royal wedding with Charles and Diana. That was a huge affair, very well televised and enjoyed by the entire world. The same goes with William and Kate. I don't think I'll call her Catherine, simply because I am rebellious. I understand it's a more regal sounding name, but we will always know her as Kate. The history books will call her Catherine, especially if she ever becomes queen.

The pomp was typical for British royalty, loads of guests, including Elton John, but one family was not in attendance. That was the President of the United States, Barak Obama and his wife. Here is the official reason, but I believe there is another reason.

"Buckingham Palace officials revealed that crowned heads of states are invited to the wedding, while US President Barack Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy did not receive invitations.


In a separate Associated Press article on the Los Angeles Times, Palace officials said political leaders who are not from the 54-member Commonwealth of Nations (such as Obama and Sarkozy) were not invited to the wedding. "

Word has it that Michele Obama put her hand on the queen's back during a visit, and the offense was on! It is a no-no to touch the queen without having a hand offered, and never on the back. Whatever, it makes good copy and speculation.

The one thing I noticed that I rarely see with any televised wedding, there were no boobs! The bride wasn't showing all she had, nor did the ladies in waiting. Certainly not within the royal family or any of the invited guests. I also didn't see any strapless dresses. There may have been some, I just didn't see them. It may be out of respect for the church of England.

So I suppose we are looking at another 30 or so years before the next king/queen to be is married, so maybe I can plan ahead and get my ticket for a trip across the ocean and hang out at the gates with my big hat hoping for a glimpse of the future. I'll be pretty old, but I think it would be fun!
