Scheduling, a trait or fault?

I know that I can be a little harsh when it comes to getting things taken care of in an orderly sort of fashion. That's what makes doing my job a bit of a pleasant challenge. I have always put things in a working order and complete a task. I don't like to see a huge, looming picture in front of me that seems overwhelming and undoable. I have to break it down into easily finishable tasks. Once an order is set, things move along smoothly, at least mostly smoothly, to the end.

Working with others can be a challenge if they can't plan a schedule the same way. I schedule work for 2 men on a daily basis, and call in work to other vendors. I don't have to place them into a work schedule, they can call the tenant to do that, but our handymen act like children let loose. I will send them work orders over email, so they have to check their email. It's one of the requirements of this job. If they don't check the email, they won't get a job, we will have angry tenants, and often times I have to change the workman assigned a job to another workman due to time and availability and they need to be reading their email everyday. They don't.

I see a trend building. I see that I will have to give them a weekly calendar, outlining their every move and conversation. I have several outstanding work orders for one man, and he since he isn't able to reach the tenants for today, he thinks he has the day off! I reminded him he has a couple of work orders in unoccupied units that he could take care of now, we have folks moving in next week, and then he could probably have a 3 day Memorial Weekend if he does that today. "Oh" is the response I get. I am not a procrastinator, waiting to do stuff drives me mad, so it's hard for me to not be pushy to others to not procrastinate, either. I will have to take some time to work a plan that isn't harsh or pushy looking but effective. I will say, one of our workmen is a very hard worker, and wants to work all the time, but scheduling is difficult for him, as well. I've become wise and schedule him daily, so I'll need to figure out what works for the other gentleman.
