Moving Day

The day has finally come. The Girl has been waiting for this for a few weeks. She had to wait until the first of June to move her stuff into the sorority house at State. At the end of May, during finals, she got very sick with the crud that is going around. It started with aching muscles, sensitive skin, fever and all the stuff related to the real flu. I treated her as best as I could, but by the last final, I took her to school for her test. How cool is it NOT to have you mom drive you to a college final. Add to that, it's the beginning of a very short summer vacation, 5 days to be exact, before the summer session started. She began to cough up a lung, so just before the 3 day weekend, she went to the Dr. to get some cough medicine. Then she coughed a rib out of place and spend the entire weekend coughing while holding her rib and dying. It was touch and go, but she survived to see the chiropractor on Tuesday, and then, though the rib was in place, she was very, very sore. It's been a bad flu/cold and she was too sick to be able to take possession of her room on the first.
But at last, the day came when she could move her stuff in without too much pain. She loaded up her sharp looking red car and headed off down the road to begin unpacking her car. She was ready to begin her new summer experience. How fun is it to be in a house with a bunch of other girls who have the same principles as you, all summer long! She will be sharing a room, something not done before being an only child, but I am confident she will enjoy herself.

However, not all things are fun. After the moving, unpacking and getting ready to head home to pick up more stuff, the Girl went out get in her car, only to have it start but not run well. It would stall out, run bad and then not at all. She called AAA and they came and hooked up her car. The driver was a very nice gentleman and could drive his rig! He towed her car to the dealership and we followed behind. He dropped it off, didn't charge us the for the 2 miles over our limit, for which I am grateful. We left the keys with a salesperson, because the service department was closed. The Girl didn't get to stay at the house last night. But I enjoyed her being home, one more night. The dealership called, gave us the news, the total for the work, and fixed her car by the end of the day. She picked up the sharp looking car, loaded it up with more stuff and headed back over the sorority house. Stick Dog and I watched her leave out the living room window, and was obvious about it. It was a memorable time, for me. These are memories that I will never forget, some that I dreamed about years ago and wondered how I would do with the feeling that my Girl is growing up faster than I may have wanted, but knew these days would come. God has to prepare me for these things. Stick Dog just likes looking out the window.

This picture is a rare find. The Girl actually found a spot to park  on the street in front of the sorority house! Unheard of! Probably will never happen again! But the next best part is that there is a red zone behind her so that no one can box her in. Believe me, that is a Godsend! She's unpacked her car and is slowly making her room her own place. I am sure that I will get the royal tour soon. I'm glad she has gotten this opportunity to spend the summer in this place. I miss her greatly, and I didn't cry until she passed the stop sign, but I know this is a good thing. I also know how to text, email, phone and play Words with Friends. Another chapter in life, I suppose. I hope it is a good read.

  1. Yikes how awful to be so sick during finals week! But how fun for her to spend the summer living at the sorority house. I hope you are so busy you don't have time to miss her *too* much ...
