Mirrored post

I have to say that Jersey moms blog post about the dark soled shoes in the dryer made me nod my head. Yep, been there my self. I normally don't dry house shoes or sneakers in the dryer because I hate the marks, but mostly hate the noise. So, in all my wisdom, I nodded my head agreeably.

Then IT happened.

I heard the call bellowing form the garage. "Hey! why are there ink marks in the dryer?" Oh yes I did! I went dashing, well sorta of fast walking, into the living room, rounding the corner by the dining room and heading past the trash can for the garage door. There stood The Girl, with the dryer door open, looking in the inside the dryer with a "uh oh" look on her face. I stuck my head into the dryer and saw the awfullest marks on the dryer drawn by an ink pen. We both stared in silence.

Finally, after an eternity of not blinking, I reached in side and gingerly took a finger across one of the marks to see if it would make my finger inky. It didn't. I spun the drum and wiped with a rag, on all the marks to see if they would come off.  Either sadly or gratefully, they didn't. So I said, " just use it", and walked away very irritated.

You see, we went through many phases of life, washing and drying clothes. I have never had crayon in either one, knock on laminate, or ink. I have checked pockets and when I find anything that shouldn't go in, I usually confiscate it and we are all good. Not to say we haven't had to pick tissue off after cold season tissues went through the washer and dryer, but never a stain to be gained in my washer and dryer!

I figured that there are three of us. One of us is guilty. I can only answer for myself and The Husband, but honestly I can't vouch for him either. I check but I know he just recently had a work smock go through and he carries pens in his pocket. I will not put a pen or pencil, or any other sharp object, in a pocket because it will cause harm when I put my hand in there. Besides, I must have been thoroughly schooled growing up about this.

That leaves You Know Who, and no that is not Stick Dog. No one is fessing up, and probably a good thing, too.

So to the solution - I tried rubbing alcohol but that helped very little, nail polish remover had the same results, tried the "removes ink" clothes stain remover and that was useless. Off the internet I went. Many people talked about soaking a towel in the bleach and water and running it though the dryer. What have I got to loose. Actually, using all the chemicals inside a dryer is stupid. Where do you think my face was? My asthmatic lungs can't do that sort of unventilated cleaning.

I doused an old towel in 2 cups of bleach and a gallon of water, ran it though the dryer for a couple of hours and it did pretty well! Still some streaks in inside, but it looks better. Another web site said to use rubbing compound and I will try that on the remaining streaks.

And all have been schooled about ink pens.

UPDATE! Oh how the mighty have fallen!! It was The Husband! Found the shirt with the pen still in the pocket with a ton 'o ink on the shirt. Dun dun dun!

  1. Funny about disliking the noise, that should have been my clue that something was wrong. Dena kept complaining about it.

Sorry about the pen but good to know that the towel trick mostly worked. My SIL had a blue crayon go through her 2-week-new dryer and permanently stained the entire drum. :( I think that would make me cry.
