Amazing what one week can do. A week ago we were on fire and temperatures where HIGH. Today, the temps were a high of 65 and a low of 60. Mostly cloudy. A typical May weather pattern.
We went to see Grandma today to get the chores taken care of. One of the fires was along the freeway to her house. The freeway was closed down, in fact, due to the proximity of the fire and the freeway. Sure enough, the ground was scorched at the edge of the freeway, up through the hillsides, around the trailer park, whoops I mean mobile home village, along the cross highway and nearly to the gas station. That was the south to north direction. The it burned from the 15 west to the settlement of Bonsal, not a real town. We dodged a bullet on that fire. No evacuation was needed for Fallbrook. That was one fire. The other seven were scattered around the north county. San Marcos was pretty vicious, but by far, Carlsbad had it the worst.
Several families we rent to had to evacuate. They all called the office and were fearful, wondering what to take with them. When you get evacuations orders, that's not really a great time to be wondering what to take. I can just bet that some of them have it figured out, by now.
This has been a kinda sorta strange week. It started out regular, typical week like, and it could have been the emotions of the previous week's fires, but it just really never panned out to be a normal feeling week. I was glad that Memorial Day Weekend was here, but it felt like it was a bit early in the month. Then the Husband took off Friday, and forgot to tell me, and that sort of threw a wrench into the week. Now it is the weekend and I need to plan a Bar B Que for Monday. Oh, and the brother in law is moving to Fallbrook and will stop by on Monday to put more stuff in the garage. More stuff. In the garage. Really. More stuff.
Add to this, the kitty has taken a notion to do "duty" not in the "duty" box. What's up Kitty? So I have to pull out the stuff in the garage this weekend and do some cleaning and whoop up on the cat. Let me think on that a bit.
I spent most of the week cleaning the floors and dusting everything from the wind driven dust and ash. Ick! I shampooed the carpets one day and scrubbed and mopped the lino the next day. Of course, no good cleaning is sufficient if the cabinet doors are not scrubbed along with the floors, since I am already on the floor. When everything is put away, you notice the difference in the lower cabinets and the upper cabinets. It's truly a maddening event. Now all cabinets fronts are cleaned. I even managed to squeeze in cleaning the exterior of the windows.
However, when cleaning the lower cabinets, I am still finding evidence of the spilled/broken coffee cup residue in the cabinet. I have found dried coffee in pots and under the foil beneath the burners. Who knew that liquid could be in so many places. No one is allowed to run the Keurig without standing next to it. I don't want to find this sort of residue again.
So now we move on into June. What surprises lay ahead? Glad I don't know.
