So, a month later, test have been done, and no heart issue, or leukemia. So it should all be good. But it isn't. It seems as though we can confirm some things, but still haven't reached the full diagnosis. Symptoms come and go, things seem to be better, but we can only wait and see what crops up next. This has been a rough summer, but I feel baddest for the Husband.
Monday, Labor Day, is the last day of summer here. Well, the last day of vacation summer. All schools will start on Tuesday. The local JC started 2 weeks ago, SDSU started last week, some of the local school districts started mid August and the City of SD will start their traditional session on Tuesday. That means the Girl's vacation is OVER.
When I was a wee tot, and lived in the SF bay area, we started school right after Labor Day, and it was usually just about the time of my middle sister's birthday. We plowed through the school year, with breaks at Veteran's Day, in November, followed by Thanksgiving and the following day off. Then we began our "good behavior" days since the 2 week Christmas break was quickly approaching.
When Christmas was over, so was life. We didn't get a day off until Lincoln's and Washington's birthday. That would be followed by a week of Easter Vacation, and then the final push to end school. That usually fell right around the first week of June, just before my birthday. When school was over, camping season began and we would be gone all summer, to return just on Labor Day weekend. Those were good days, in my mind.
When we moved to a farming community, school began the day after labor day and ended on the Friday before Memorial Day. Farmers and their kids had lots of field work to do. Those were good day, too.
According to the Girl, kiddos just don't have the same sort of fun. Their school activities are so structured that there is no fee play time, or imagination. One of her students asked one day if this was called having fun, he wasn't sure. They aren't able to play with paper airplanes, someone will get poked in the eye, no water balloons because of latex. No ball games, some one will get hit and for goodness sake! no running games. What are you supposed to do as a kid if you don't run, fall, cry and pick your self up and move on to the next game, proudly sporting a new bandage?
Life was good to me.
While the summer may be over, the heat sure isn't. It's typical for the heat to be horrid through the month of September and part of October. I am pretty tired of the heat. We had a warm winter last year so I am hoping for some cooler weather and some rain. The drought is bad, and I feel guilty if I turn on the water. My car has the Urban Camo look. I guess I will need to go to the car wash that recycles water. If I wash it in the front yard on the grass, some one will narc on me if it's after 10 AM. Such Philistines! I have some envy for the PacNorWesterner friend who gets rain and cooler nights. Sleeping is over rated, since it doesn't happen often in the summer time around here. And for that same girlfriend, tanning occurs in the shower each morning at 7 AM. Soon, the sun will be to the south and we will not get the blazing sun through the bathroom window.
So that about catches me up. The Husband is doing okay, the Girl is going back to work, the heat is hanging around and all animals are still living. We are all good.
