Rhonda the Elf, where's your leak?

Wow! What a week! Major flooding and Christmas in the same week! The rain started and just wouldn't stop. It kept raining and blowing, and blowing some more, with rain. It was quite the storm, and it lasted for days. Now, anyone who knows San Diego knows that more than 30 minutes of rain can spell disaster, but days of heavy rain and wind cause a state of emergency! Since I work next the the San Diego River, we got some front row seats of the river rising, rising, rising and overflowing the banks. The first things to go are the bridges over the river. This is what they look like. And this is what people do during the rainy season, stand atop their cars waiting for rescue workers to help them. The debris is unbelievable when the waters subside. When this river overflows, it takes out some very important places, such as a golf course, vital roadways, a stadium and a couple of malls, not to mention the high rise condos and trolley tracks that follow the river and highways. The Girl took a couple of pictures of a trolley station in front of JC Penny's and behind and the parking lot is flooded, as was the trolley station. Needless to say, no service today! It just wouldn't stop raining. Only one way in to work for the Girl. The roads were all closed, including the only road left to get into the mall on the west bound side. What a mess.

The driving around my work building wasn't any better, since all the bridges were closed. Everyone was trying to get to the freeway, but no road would cross over, and then there was others were were looking anyway and then there was this huge traffic jam and it took 30-45 minutes to go a quarter mile. It was so ridiculous. Oh, and it was Christmas shopping time, too.

So then, with all the rain, adding in the factor that SoCal homeowners don't re roof as often as they should, many, many, many tenants called in with major leakage. Add to that the usual week of repairs, it was one wild week at work. Then there are the owners. Some think the tenants are causing all the problems. Really? Can a tenant cause the wind to blow and the rain to fall? There must be money in this somewhere.

Thankfully, it ended, for a bit of time. Christmas was sunny, until dark, when it rained again. It's suppose to dry out and then rain again on Wednesday. This is a La Nina year, so why all the rain? Must be global wetting.

Christmas was a good day. We relaxed and ate a great meal. We all got wonderful gifts but mostly it was about the quiet day. The pager didn't go off at all, and I expected to be on the pager all day with tenant issues. I am very thankful. I suspect that tomorrow morning will bring with it a large volume of calls on my desk phone. Oh boy. Can't wait to see what this week brings.

If you were interested in the Poinsettia Bowl scores, don't be. It nearly didn't happen, since the stadium was flooded. They pumped it out all night and made it available for the game, just in time. Here's a picture of the stadium pre-game. As for the score, I really don't remember, but I know that Navy lost. That's tough in a Navy town and the winning university in the same town.

Now it's a count down to the New Year! It's all good.
