A visit to the Gates of Death...Valley

We, the Husband and I, spent the weekend in the sunny metropolis of Ridgecrest. This is not the "best-est place ever" to visit. I am not a desert type of person. I don't like the landscape of stunted scrub bushes and tumble weeds, Joshua trees that look like rigid soldiers with explosives on the ends of their hands. The wind blows always...always blowing, but you'd never know it by looking at the scenery. Nothing moves much at all, except the tumble weeds.

While we were there, the desert is blooming. Really. There is a carpet of yellow flowers that bloom each year about a week before the heat arrives, so the ground was covered in yellow, between the scrub bushes, and the occasional purple thistle would pop up between the areas of yellow. I will say that seeing that was the prettiest I've ever seen the desert, and that isn't saying much, really. I was anxious to see the pass on 15 because that means there are real trees ahead. The wind howled constantly over the weekend. This morning, the wind died down and it was so quiet and nearly pleasant. But, the wind started up just before we left.

I'm glad to be home. I missed the Girl, Stick Dog, my bed and my home. I don't mind a visiting somewhere, just a fun somewhere. I would really like a trip to Cayucos. Maybe in December.
