My PacNorWestern friend posted about the big blow, a mighty wind in the north that caused her some concerns over the stately trees lining the back of the property and next to the bedroom. That would cause me some concerns, as well. I have bad dreams about such things falling and pining me into a small place, and usually in my night clothes. Really, I don't want any emergency personnel at my house, extracting me from a fallen branch or roof timbers while I am in my sleeping attire. Not to mention, I just don't look my best when I am sleeping and goodness knows that as I age, I am trying to schedule all emergencies when I look my best. I can see the newspaper clippings with my face plastered in horror with my hair all askew and sleep in my eyes, with my night clothes on. Not pretty.
After she posted about her Big Blow storm the night before, we got the strangest wind storm last night, too! This happened after I finally got to bed, after 11 PM. Let me set this up. I have insomnia, and on Wednesday nights it becomes very hard to relax after a rousing Bible study. So we have shortened the time and now I get home around 9. It takes a bit of time to unwind, but I finally was able to get to bed just around 11. At 11:45 the cat wakes me up by mewing his lungs out, letting me know he is board/hungry/lonesome so I got up and chased him around the house until I cornered him and pushed him into the garage. Off to bed, again. Just dozed off, when in my slumber, I heard Stick Dog barking off in the distance. I woke up enough to holler his name through the open window, since we haven't had a real fall season and are in the midst of summer, and realized that the wind was howling! He came in, reluctantly, but wouldn't settle down. Stick Dog has become Spooked Dog. I had to get back up, again, and close the umbrella since the table was trying to take off into the atmosphere. The flag next door was snapping like a wet towel. I dragged Spooked Dog up on the bed and made him lay there, he kept wanting to go outside and bark.
Then, as I was becoming more aware of the unusualness of this wind, I became a little concerned that there may be a fire associated with this wind. We have no trees to worry about falling on the bedroom, but I certainly don't want to have to evacuate a fire storm in my PJ's. So, up I got again, and check the horizon for the golden red glow of a fire. Nope, no fire that I can see. Back to bed, again. I told Spooked Dog to lay down, but every time I moved, he would jump up and stare out the window and bark. Yep, certainly sleeping weather! I gave up at 2 and got up and made Spooked Dog sit with me on the sofa while we watched Mission Impossible, the old television show. Unlike my PacNorWestern friend, we kept our electricity.
Around 2:45 the Husband came home, was a bit surprised to see me up, and we chatted about the wind. He told me the wind was from the south, unusual for us and the clouds were ripping along the sky. I looked out and indeed they were! These were clouds from the hurricane down in Baja and they were going along at a very fast pace. At 3ish I left the Husband in charge of Spooked Dog and went to bed, where upon the dog came with me, darn. He settled down a bit and we drifted off to sleep. 3 hrs later I was up. It's still blowing, but only in spurts now. Spooked Dog will retain his name for the day, or until the wind dies down. Maybe, just hopefully, I can get to bed tonight and get some sleep, maybe.
